We are just days away from Super Bowl LV and while I am excited for the game (and commercials), I am more excited about the game day eats. My go-to for any Super Bowl party is my air fryer frozen chicken wings.

I love these air fryer frozen chicken wings for many reasons. First of all, they’re the ultimate finger food – messy and oh-so delicious. Have your napkins ready! Second, they’re so quick and easy (as in you don’t even need to defrost them!) to make so you can enjoy the game without needing to watch over the actual fryer. Third, the dietitian in me loves that they’re healthified! These air fryer frozen chicken wings have the perfect crisp exterior and moist interior, without the added fat.

Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Of course we will start off with how to elevate the chicken wings. I purposefully make my recipes simple so that you can make them your own. As I like to say “make food that makes sense.” Below are some suggestions to bring these air fryer frozen chicken wings to the next level.

  • Play around with the seasonings!

While my recipe only includes the trusty S and P, you can add whatever seasonings you enjoy to the recipe. For an added kick, you can include seasonings such as red pepper flakes, chili powder, or cayenne pepper. For a more savory option, you can add garlic and onion powder. Or you can combine all of those seasonings together! Play around with seasonings you enjoy – there are no rules when it comes to cooking.

  • Coat with your favorite sauce.

Bring on those sticky fingers! Another way to amp up this air fryer frozen chicken wings is to add a sauce. One of my go-to sauces I add are my Honey Sriracha Sauce for that sweet and spicy zing, or my Arugula Chimichurri for an herby flare. You can also use your favorite store-bought BBQ or hot sauces, just be sure to look out for added sugars and aim to keep sodium to 200 mg or less.

  • Make a dip.

While some prefer wings with a sauce, others may prefer a dip. I have the best recipes for homemade dips to pair with these air fryer frozen chicken wings. A tried and true favorite is obviously ranch dressing, however, I love making my Dairy Free Ranch Dressing because I find it to be lighter, and more flavorful. Another favorite dip I love to add to the side of my wings is my Avocado Sauce. This sauce adds a delightful creamy element that counters perfectly to the crisp exterior of the chicken wings.

How do you enjoy your chicken wings?

Other game day eats

Now for the rest of the spread. I like to stay with the theme of finger foods, where you can easily grab your favorites and enjoy the game. Here’s what I typically include during my Super Bowl festivities:

  • Crudite – As a dietitian, I always make sure veggies are front and center at any occasion. I just julienne cucumbers, carrots, bell peppers, and add some tomatoes, as well as broccoli and cauliflower florets. Bonus is you can make extra ranch or avocado sauce and pair it with the veggies too!
  • Chips and salsa – They’re just a classic!
  • My Cherry Tomato Bruschetta – Another veggie-focused, yet yummy appetizer!
  • My Stuffed Sweet Potatoes – Who doesn’t love potato skins? Only this one is healthified and customizable. It’s a win-win.

Health benefits

One of the main nutrients in these air fryer frozen chicken wings is protein. Protein is a macronutrient that is necessary for the body to function. Proteins are needed for the enzymatic reactions to occur, wound healing and tissue health, and immune health, to list a few roles.1 Just as without any of the other macronutrients, without protein, our bodies wouldn’t be able to function properly.

Protein from animal vs. plant sources

While most Americans do not have to worry about protein intake due to it being a mainstay in our diets, it is important to note that protein content varies in animal and plant foods.2 Protein from animal sources, like my air fryer frozen chicken wings, tend to have all of the essential amino acids; they are complete proteins.3 On the other hand, plant sources of protein don’t always contain all of the essential amino acids (excluding quinoa).3 This means that you need to pair your plant proteins with one another, or have complementary proteins. A good example of this would be rice and beans. It is important to keep this in mind so that you obtain all the amino acids necessary for your body.

I hope you enjoy these air fryer frozen chicken wings as much as I do!

Air Fryer

I get a lot of questions about which air fryer I am using since it has a larger basket that is a rectangle and flattish. I love it and am able to really spread out items for maximum crispiness! If you’d like the same model, head HERE to see more and purchase.
