Peach Salsa

Chef Abbie Gellman RD

So long boring tomato salsa and hello peach salsa (ok, maybe we’re not kicking tomato salsa to the curb, but it’s fun to change it up sometimes). I have created a peach salsa recipe that’ll blow you away! Both sweet and spicy, it’s perfect accompaniment to tacos, tortilla chips, salads, burritos, you name it. In just a few steps, you have a delicious snack.

How To Make the Peach Salsa

To make the peach salsa, first create your mise en place – this will speed up the time it takes to prepare the salsa. So, dice the peaches, red onion and jalapeno, chop the cilantro and zest and juice the lime. From there, mix all the ingredients into a bowl, and there you go!

About Peaches

Peaches are considered stone fruit. In the U.S., peaches are in season during the summer months, with peak season landing around late July and early August. During this time, a variety of peaches are available, including white peaches, yellow peaches (my favorite), donut peaches, and nectarines. Each has a different flavor, but each would work well in the peach salsa.

Health Benefits of Peaches

One serving of peaches, or about one medium peach, has 2 grams of fiber, is a good source of vitamin A and an excellent source of vitamin C. These nutrients along with the others found in peaches help to keep our digestive system, heart, eyes, skin and cells healthy.

What If Peaches Are Out Of Season?

If you want to try this recipe in the winter months when peaches aren’t in season, my go-to is to use California Cling Peaches because they’re always in season. The California Cling Peaches are picked at peak ripeness and will transport you to the summer months. But if peaches aren’t your thing, you can always opt for another stone fruit like plums or apricots!

In addition, you can also change the recipe according to the season. For example in the early summer, you can make a blueberry salsa, or in the fall, you can make an apple salsa.

  • 2 ripe peaches diced (can peel, but I like to leave the peel on for added fiber)
  • ½ red onion diced small
  • 1 jalapeno diced small
  • Zest of 1 lime
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro chopped

  • Mix all ingredients together and adjust seasoning as necessary.
  • Recommended to serve with vegetables, poultry, or fish. Actually, anything works great
