Instant Pot Oatmeal with Peanut Butter

Looking for a breakfast you and your family will enjoy?  My no-stress Instant Pot Oatmeal is the perfect option!  Steel cut oats are my favorite, but they do take longer to cook than regular oats.  Using the Instant Pot or a pressure cooker allows you to decrease the cooking time and enjoy your steel cut oats faster!  Enjoy my Instant Pot Oatmeal with peanut butter…or as some people call it, yumminess!

All about Instant Pot Oatmeal

Combine water and steel-cut oats to the instant pot and stir to combine.  Close and lock the lid.  Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes if you’re looking for a chewy texture, or cook for 13 minutes if looking for creamier oats.  Allow the pot to naturally release pressure.  Once released, carefully open the lid away from you, add toppings, and enjoy your Instant Pot Oatmeal!

Steel Cut Oats

When purchasing oats, my personal favorite are steel cut oats.  Steel cut oats are made by running whole oats through a steel mill and, chopping them into small pieces.  This results in a nutty taste and chewier texture than other oat varieties.  Steel cut oatmeal is a great source of complex carbohydrates to fuel your body for the day ahead!  They also contain fiber, protein, and iron.

I love Instant Pot Oatmeal because you can change your breakfast each day by simply switching what you put on top of your oats!  You can add berries, almond or peanut butter, bananas, chopped nuts, yogurt, and the list goes on and on!  If you normally add sugar, honey or maple syrup to your oats, try swapping out some of those with fruit.  The fruit will add natural sweetness, and may eliminate the need to add additional sugar.

When deciding what to put on my oats, I like to add some fruit for sweetness and to increase the vitamins and minerals in my breakfast.  I also like to add something crunchy, like pistachios or almonds, and a little extra protein from nut butters or yogurt.  The possibilities are endless!  What do you like to top your Instant Pot Oatmeal with?

Tips

If you want to store your Instant Pot Oatmeal, allow it to cool completely for 20 minutes.  Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.

When re-heating your Instant Pot Oatmeal, scoop out individual servings of cooked oats. Add 1 tablespoon of water or milk to the chilled oats. Reheat in either a small pot over medium-low heat or the microwave for about 2 minutes. Stir the oats before serving

Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 cups water
  • 1 1/4 cups steel-cut oats not instant
  • Peanut butter
  • Banana
  • Peanuts chopped

Instructions

  • Add the water and oats to the pot and stir to combine. Close and lock the lid. For chewy oats, pressure-cook for 10 minutes on HIGH pressure. For creamier oats, pressure-cook for 13 minutes on HIGH pressure.
  • When the cooking cycle completes, turn off the machine. To prevent scorching, don't let it switch to the "keep warm" setting. Allow the pot to cool down and release pressure naturally, about 10 minutes. Once the pressure has fully released, carefully open the lid away from you. (Consult your pressure cooker's manual to learn how to tell when it's safe to remove the lid.)
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons peanut butter, ½ a sliced banana, and 1-2 tablespoons of chopped nuts to each bowl.
